Last week, I was really intentional about how I spent my time.
I normally spend a lot of my free time with my family, which is, of course, one of my greatest delights. But last week, I decided to spend a little more time alone.
I used to do that a lot.
Of course, I still have my regular morning walks alone, time to pray, reflect and simply relax. I call them my precious moments.
Last week, I paid a visit to the British Library, and afterwards I walked along Regent’s Canal towards Little Venice. The weather was so lovely that, honestly, for a moment it felt like I was actually in Venice!
A couple of days later, I took myself out again, this time to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
I’ve been there a few times, but somehow, with every visit, I discover something new.
Without fail, I am mesmerised.
My mind is challenged by the creativity of other people. I see God everywhere, in the gifts, talents and interests He has placed within others.
And something happens when I am surrounded by all that creativity.
My own creativity is stirred.
I love it.
It’s intoxicating.
Later in the week, I found myself thinking again about the gifts within us. In 2 Timothy 1:6, we are reminded to stir up the gift within us.
For me, that simply means: let your gifts work.
Use them.
Share them.
Allow them to come alive.
Because I believe this is part of what makes the world go round. Imagine if everyone decided to sit on their gifts and never share them.
What a dull world it would be!
Don’t you think?
As I reflected on my week, my thoughts eventually led me to Deuteronomy 30:19:
“Choose life.”
And that has become my prayer and my declaration for the rest of this month, perhaps even for the rest of the year:
I choose life.
In my own layman’s terms, choosing life means choosing to be intentional.
Intentional about how I spend my days.
Intentional about noticing beauty.
Intentional about making room for the things that stir something within me.
Intentional about using the gifts God has given me.
And intentional even in the small things.
Because perhaps choosing life is not always about making one huge, dramatic decision.
Sometimes, it is simply choosing to be present in the life we already have.
Happy Monday.
Happy New Week!
With love,
Ama Serwaa
