When an opportunity works out well, it gives us confidence. Our faith grows, we become more hopeful and we start to believe that perhaps other things can work out too.
But I don’t think growth only comes from the good times.
Hardship can teach us something too.
When we go through difficult seasons and find a way to keep going, we often discover strength we didn’t know we had. We learn to cope. We learn to adapt. Sometimes our faith becomes stronger because we have had to depend on it more.
Life has its seasons.
A long rainy season can make us appreciate the sunshine, just as a heatwave can make us grateful for the rain.
I think life can be like that.
We may not always understand what a particular season is teaching us while we are in it. Sometimes we only see it afterwards.
There is so much in life that we cannot control. Things happen that we didn’t plan for. People come into our lives and leave again. Opportunities come and go.
But even when we cannot control what happens, we still have some choice in how we respond to it.
Some experiences will encourage us. Others will challenge us. Some will make us think differently about ourselves and about life.
I have also learned that life becomes easier when we stop expecting everything to happen exactly as we imagined it would.
That doesn’t mean we stop hoping or dreaming. It simply means accepting that life will not always follow our plans.
And perhaps that is where gratitude comes in.
Not because everything is perfect, but because there is still something to appreciate.
We need faith for the uncertain days, hope for what is still ahead, and enough zeal to keep participating in our own lives.
Sometimes a change in perspective really does change how we see everything else.
Life is not always easy.
But it is still a beautiful gift.
