I take joy in the fact that I am hopelessly optimistic.
I expect good things to happen to me. Quite simply, the opposite does not appeal to me.
I also know my weaknesses. Self-discipline has not always come naturally to me, but I stopped beating myself up about it when I realised that habits can be changed.
So I am working on it.
I am a work in progress.
One of my greatest strengths is resilience, and I am very proud of that. Nothing keeps me down for long.
Circumstances change. Difficult seasons do not last forever, and even disappointment can teach us something, strengthen us or redirect us.
My confidence comes from my faith.
I believe God has a hope and a future for me, and I rest in knowing that I am not walking through life alone.
I accept that I cannot control everything that happens to me. My responsibility is to take care of what is within my control – my attitude, my choices, my response and what I choose to do next – even in the midst of disappointment and setbacks.
I am not afraid of change.
If something is no longer working, I am willing to let it go, make an adjustment and give my attention to what is working.
These days, peace of mind and a healthy, happy life matter more and more to me. They are gifts I want to keep giving myself.
I have also become my own cheerleader.
I get to decide who I want to become and how I want to live my life.
I want to be known for loving-kindness and a happy countenance. I want to remain passionate, curious and interesting.
And yes, I am still working on my sense of humour!
I am doing my best not to take everything quite so seriously. I am also learning not to allow other people’s behaviour to disturb my peace unnecessarily.
I would rather use that energy to create a meaningful life filled with gratitude, love, laughter, fun and joy.
I want the best from this life, and part of that means taking responsibility for the thoughts I hold about myself.
So today, I want to remind you of something too:
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Know yourself.
Be yourself.
Celebrate your essence.
And wherever you find yourself today, remember:
You matter.
Thank you for reading,
Ama Serwaa x
