Every now and then, you’ve got to evaluate how you spend your time.
Are you spending your time doing what gives you satisfaction, or have you simply become used to doing what you have always done?
As we get older, it is so easy to fall into the habit of doing the same things day in, day out. Familiarity feels comfortable. We are creatures of habit, and sometimes we stay with familiar surroundings, routines and situations even when we know they are no longer serving us.
What I have learned over the last couple of years is that courage is developed when you challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone. It grows when you begin to focus more on what you might gain than on the discomfort of trying something different.
A couple of years ago, I turned my focus inward and took a closer look at my own life. I realised there were things I did not want to continue with. Not necessarily because they were all bad, but because they were taking up space I wanted to use differently.
I needed to make room for some of the other things I wanted to do.
What I have also come to understand is that change does not always have to be dramatic. Sometimes it begins with one small decision: doing something differently, learning something new, making time for something you have neglected or simply admitting that an old way of living no longer suits who you are becoming.
There will always be reasons to stay where we are. Familiarity feels safe. But every now and then, it is worth asking ourselves whether our comfort is helping us to grow or simply keeping us in the same place.
I have never been afraid of change. I have always embraced the idea of reinvention.
And for me, faith does not mean sitting back and waiting for life to change. I trust God completely, but I also believe there are times when I have to take the step that is mine to take.
I absolutely trust in the faithfulness of God, and because of that, I continue to look forward to a good day and a brighter future.
Perhaps today is a good day to ask yourself:
Is there something in your life you need to make room for?
