I have lived in London for many years, but the city still manages to surprise me.

Yesterday, I spent a lovely afternoon at the British Library near St Pancras. I had visited the library once, many years ago, and of course I have passed through St Pancras Station many times, but I had never really explored the surrounding area.

I particularly enjoyed the British Library’s must-see Treasures Gallery. It was fascinating to see so many historic books, manuscripts and other remarkable items in one place. I could have stayed there much longer.

After leaving the library, I walked towards Regent’s Canal and continued in the direction of Little Venice. It felt like discovering a completely different side of London.

I enjoyed seeing the modern buildings, contemporary boutiques, cafés and places to eat along the way. The area felt lively, but still relaxed enough for a peaceful afternoon stroll.

Sadly, my phone camera did not do the scenery justice, so I was not able to take as many good photographs as I would have liked. Still, I enjoyed simply being present, looking around and taking everything in.

Living in a city for a long time can make us stick to the same familiar places and routines. Yesterday reminded me that there is still so much of London I have not seen.

I would definitely recommend spending an afternoon in this area. Start at the British Library, visit the Treasures Gallery, then take a gentle walk towards Regent’s Canal and Little Venice. Stop for a coffee or something to eat along the way and allow yourself to enjoy the afternoon without rushing.

Sometimes, we do not need to travel far to feel refreshed. A few quiet hours exploring somewhere new can be just what we need.
